“Competitions are not all the same”
|
Rallye Rejviz is an International Professional Exercise and Competition for Emergency Medical Service Crews, founded in 1997 in the Czech Republic. The term Rallye reflects the mobile nature of our work — responding by ambulance, snowmobile, helicopter, or plane — whatever it takes to reach those in need. The competition takes its name from Rejviz, a truly magical village nestled in the Jeseník Mountains, where the original rally was held.
|
The competition takes place over a 24-hour period, where teams face 12 realistic emergency scenarios across multiple divisions, traveling by ambulance or SUV to each call. These staged events are located within a 40-kilometre radius and can take place in a variety of challenging environments - from rivers and lakes to farmhouses, industrial sites, and mountain terrain.
Each scenario is designed to feel as real as possible, featuring professional actors in full moulage (special effects makeup) to simulate everything from single-patient scenes to complex multi-casualty incidents. Teams are rigorously evaluated on all aspects of their performance, including scene safety, clinical care, teamwork, and problem-solving. |
Unlike many competitions constrained by venue limitations, Rallye Rejviz overcomes these barriers by taking the tasks into the field. Realistic locations, unpredictable conditions, and a true 24-hour dispatch cycle - including overnight calls - make for an immersive and demanding experience. One scenario might involve a downed aircraft in a field at night, while another could see responders wading through water to reach injured patients.
One of the unique features is the “Golden Headset” competition — a dispatch challenge conducted entirely in Czech. This unique event assesses emergency dispatchers on their ability to manage complex calls, deploy resources efficiently, and navigate the communication challenges faced in real-world EMS settings. While our Canadian team does not compete in this category, we greatly admire the skill and precision it showcases.
They also host a children's competition, a unique program that engages elementary school students in learning first aid and identifying potential risks both at home and outdoors. The students are then tested in a competition format, reinforcing their skills in areas such as bandaging, CPR, and more. The top teams are celebrated at the podium, receiving trophies for their achievements, and join us in a special celebration with their friends, teachers, and families on stage.

None of this would be possible without the tireless dedication of nearly 1,000 volunteers and organizers. We’re deeply grateful to all the sponsors — in Canada and abroad — whose generous support makes Rallye Rejviz a reality year after year.
Across borders and languages, those of us in emergency medical services share a powerful bond. Whether in pre-hospital care or emergency departments, we are united in our commitment to learning, improving, and delivering the best possible outcomes for our patients. This is the spirit we bring to Rallye Rejviz — learning, teaching, sharing, and celebrating, on and off the podium. |
